Alex Smith - U20 NoEAA Championship Win |
May 29 - Alex Smith won the hammer at the U20 North of England Championships with a personal best performance of 65.62m. This was only 20cm short of the championship record held by his dad, Dave.

New Junior League Record |
May 23 - Alex Smith has set a new junior league record of 64.95m with the 6.00kg hammer. This is an incredible achievement, especially considering he is still throwing in the U17 age group.

Laura Douglas Sets Welsh Senior Record |
Laura Douglas has broken the welsh senior record with a personal best throw of 59.15m. This was set on the 22 May at the North Wales Championships held in Deeside.

Olympic Security Fears Could Spell Disaster |

It is possible that Britain may boycott the Olympic Games in Athens if they feel that security is compromised.
The olympic project is already behind schedule and this has raised concerns over security. The organisers remain optimistic, but their have already been trade-offs in an attempt to get the games back on-schedule.

Alex Smith (U17) threw a massive personal best of 69.62m with the 5k hammer on sunday; a competition in which he had 4 throws over 67m. This puts him 7th on the UK U17 all-time lists, ahead of Peter Vivian. |

Shirley Webb Makes World Class Breakthrough |
 |
Shirley Webb opened her season with a massive personal best of 67.52m at the European Winter Throws challenge based in Malta.
The competition was won by Germany’s Andrea Bunjes with 67.99m and Shirley was a close second. More significantly she now has the olympic A qualifying standard and is placed 2nd on the UK All-time rankings.

Moreno keeps improving |
Yipsi Moreno has set yet another world leading mark of 74.43m. She's still far from satisfied and believes that the world record is well within reach. The current womens world record is 76.07m by Mihaela Melinte of Romania.

Sports City Athletics Arena Open |
A stadium has been completed around the warm-up track from the commonwealth games. Its 6,000 undercover seats span the whole of the perimeter of the track. The £3.5m arena was funded with the aid of the Northwest Development Agency (NWDA), European Regional Development Fund and Manchester City Council.

Melissa Price Tests Positive |
US hammer women's hammer champion Melissa Price (2003 best of 70.34m) has tested positive for the banned substance THG (tetrahydrogestrinone). Price has denied taking the designer steroid and will file an appeal.

Massive Personal Best |
Karim Chester, the U20 AAA's champion last year, has improved his personal best to 62.48m with the senior implement. His excellent performance represents a 9m increase on his previous best. It places him 13th on the UK senior rankings for 2003, just below Carl Saggers's performance of 62.60m.
Karim has been studying and training at North Arizona University (US) since August of last year. |

Welcome to the new Hammer Throw website! |
It's been a while since this site has been updated so here is a shiney new design for 2004.
I have now uploaded the new rankings lists (2003), added some more videos and added some more photo sequences. The information page includes documents detailing the rule changes for 2004/2005 to the hammer handle and cage. Navigation is now via the drop down menu at the top right of the page. I would appreciate any feedback.
